beige gene

This project, titled "Beige Gene," is inspired by elderly people who often wear beige.

The assignment involved submitting designs, with three selected to be executed by the class. The "cutting project" showcases how differently each design was interpreted, using only toile fabric in a special beige tone reminiscent of that worn by many seniors. Thus, I named my project "Beige Gene."

Inspired by a satirical 2008 article from TAZ, the project explores the idea of a genetic inclination towards beige in older adults. According to this humorous theory, a "beige gene" activates as people age, compelling them to choose beige clothing, reminiscent of our ancestors' use of beige for camouflage.

This project combines humor and fashion to question societal norms and the subconscious choices influenced by age. Through self-experimentation and design, I aim to reflect on these themes and provoke thought about our perceptions and behaviors as we grow older.
